How is high Cholesterol treated?
High cholesterol levels should always be treated through healthy lifestyle choices. Medications may be added when:- lifestyle choices fail to bring levels down to the desired level within three to six months
- levels are dangerously high
- the patient has a significant risk for a heart attack within the next ten years.
Medications are never a replacement for healthy lifestyle choices but are used to supplement the benefits of healthy eating and exercise.
