Cholesterol Treatment

The primary treatment goals are:
  • Low LDL levels
  • High HDL levels
  • Low Triglyceride levels
  • Low Total Cholesterol levels

How is high Cholesterol treated?

High cholesterol levels should always be treated through healthy lifestyle choices. Medications may be added when:
  • lifestyle choices fail to bring levels down to the desired level within three to six months
  • levels are dangerously high
  • the patient has a significant risk for a heart attack within the next ten years.

Medications are never a replacement for healthy lifestyle choices but are used to supplement the benefits of healthy eating and exercise.
